TRIPLE 300 AVERAGE SPEED CHALLENGE

About Us

Our goal here at the TRIPLE 300 is to provide the highest quality Average Speed Series.

Please read below to learn more about why we feel our race is one of the top one-loft races in the country. Please, also, watch our interview

Most One Loft Races have a Final Race typically around 330 miles, what we are offering is a chance/proving grounds to find your top 300 mile family by offering three (3) average speed races over 300 miles and to payout a life changing payout to the Champions.

While training our way out to the three 300+ mile races we will also be offering a 5 race sprint series with a handsome average speed pay out as well. (see payout page)

There will be no one hit wonder in this series as this will bring out the best bird that will perform week after week and prove they are truly a Sprint Champion and a 300+mile Champion.

We have built a new 84 ft long state of the art loft with 12 compartments, a full length common hallway, an office and a water and feed prep room. (see photo gallery)

We are locate on the Central Coast of California. Our climate is very mild averaging from 65 to 75 degrees most of the year. We are about 18 miles east of the ocean so occasionally we will have morning fog. 50 miles north of us is a 1,500 ft grade (Cuesta Grade). The challenge we have with the grade is north of the grade has an entirely different climate, substantially hotter so at times, by the time the fog lifts it may already be 80 to 90 degrees on the north side. What you will see with our training techniques is a multitude of release locations that are west or east of the actual line of flight.

This has worked well for our club members for many years to avoid training on excessively hot days. We have about 100 miles to train along highway 101 from the north and then we are forced to move to Interstate 5 which is ultimately where our race stations are located (a 40 mile move to the east) so what you will see is a two different 97 mile stations, a west station and an east station 40 miles to the east. Again no issues with that, our club has been flying this course for more than 50 years so we have plenty of experience and success with this course and training methods.

Co-owners and Loft Managers; Carlos Abitia (Tres Coronas Loft) and Robert Mathews.

We have been competing against each other for many years here on the Central Coast and have become very good friends. We have a great mutual respect for each others’ accomplishments and methods. We will be a great team and be able to provide the best care and results for your birds and you while providing you what will be one of the top One Loft Races out there.

Hello My name is Robert Mathews, I have had racing pigeons since 1974 starting at the age of 13. At that time in only my 3rd race I won our 200 mile club race with a DC Delbar cock bird as a Jr member, and needless to say, I have been hooked every since.

I retired from the City of Santa Maria 7 years ago after working 32 years and promoting to the top position as Fleet Services Supervisor. I’m married to my Beautiful wife and together we are very proud to have raise 4 kids (now adults) and they, so far have given us 7 grand kids that are a joy. In my past I raced cars at the local speedway for 10 years winning 4 championships, I coached my kids sports while they were growing up, I coached High school baseball for 8 years and all throughout have maintained the racing pigeons. Racing pigeons have always be a passion of mine. 7 years ago when I retired our good friend Mike Brazil passed away, at that time I took over hauling and liberating the pigeons for numerous local clubs and as it turns out something I enjoy doing and since having birds so long I believe I am very good at it. I strive for excellence in everything I do and I will be dedicated to providing you the best possible race that you will be sure to enter year after year.

My name is Carlos Abitia. I have been in the sport for over 40 years now, starting in Guadalajara, Jalisco Mexico, where I co-founded and helped manage a club with over 150 members. I also managed and was the loft veterinarian for the first national one-loft race in Mexico.

Pigeons have always been my passion, so much so that I became a veterinarian just to know more about them and to learn how to better take care of them. I have flown birds in the USA since 2010.

I am married with 5 kids and 3 grandkids. I co founded a non-profit name care4paws we work with our community helping people help their pets. My wife is also a pigeon flier and we enjoy the sport together.

I am exited to share this new format of one-loft racing with the world, the team we have created is a guarantee that we will provide you with the best race series possible. The biggest reward I have received in the pigeon sport, is the friendship of countless pigeon fanciers around the world for that I am thankful
